History
The Congregational Church of the Valley is a traditional Congregational Church serving the East Valley. Our first service was held on March 6, 1983. But Congregational Churches date back to 1571 in England, arriving in Plymouth, Massachusetts in1620 with the Pilgrims. In a larger sense, however, they find their source in the free simplicity, openness, and shared responsibility of early New Testament time.
This Congregational Church was formed with 5 charter members who entered into a covenant with God and each other to form a free and self-governing church with Christ as its head. For over a year we met in rented facilities (the chapel at Cook Christian Training School) in Tempe with founding pastor Carl Henning. Later, Rev. Harvey Cutting moved the congregation to Chandler where we worshipped in 3 different elementary schools, as plans were made for land purchase and a building. We began using our new facility in February 1990.
Our Church is affiliated with the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches, an association made up of independent and autonomous local Congregational Churches.
We invite you to come and worship with us. If you are interested in learning more about our church, contact the Rev. Lyle Schossow.
